Kids Caring Food Drive

Once again Chadron Primary School is participating in our Kids Caring Food Drive.  Rather than having classroom gift exchanges, we ask that families bring non-perishable food items to place under our Christmas Tree.  The items will be donated to a local food pantry and will be distributed to families within our community.  Thank you for your participation in this worthy cause!

Cardinals Committed Visit again

Our students are thrilled when our high school Cardinals Committed students visit our lunch room.  This week we had students from the One Act Plays join us.  These girls compete at Districts tomorrow (Friday, December 1st).  Our little Cardinals want to wish them and their entire team - GOOD LUCK!  Thanks again Cardinals Committed for taking time to make a difference in the lives of our students, you are amazing role models!

Seymour Goodthings is BACK!!!

Chadron Primary students were so excited to welcome our Elf Seymour Goodthings.  He has been spotted around the building watching our little Cardinals do amazing things here in the nest!!  We will keep you posted as to his whereabouts; however, we want to remind students and families that he is not to be touched, thank you for keeping the magic alive.

Courthouse Tree Decorating

On Tuesday, November 21st Chadron Primary students walked down to Dawes County Courthouse to decorate the Christmas Tree featured in the foyer.  The children made handmade ornaments and enjoyed the nice weather as they ventured down for the fun.  The children were also given a candy cane to enjoy.  Thank you Dawes County Courthouse employees for inviting our students to enjoy the season!

Important Information

Lockdown Drill

Drills are not life-threatening situations, however we use them to practice moving to a secure room, locking and/or barricading doors, making alternative escape plans, and gathering objects of opportunity for weapons.

The most important part of our drills, is the student discussions and practice of safety procedures and protocols with our teachers.

Lockdown is called when it is believed there is a threat or hazard inside the school building.

AVOID

• If you know exactly where the threat is ...run away and escape. If you are on the playground or outside the school, this may mean you run away from the school to a safe location then report your safety to parents and school officials.
• If you do not know exactly where the threat is ...run to a secure room. Some rooms, like bathrooms, might not be good choices for security, if time allows

DENY

• LOCK THE DOOR. Remain as quiet as possible (silence phones) and turn off the lights. Remain out of sight from any corridors or windows.
• Barricade the door if time allows. This is necessary if you are securing a room that you do not have keys or the ability to lock.
• Begin planning for an alternate escape route if possible that can be used if the door is being breached (intruder begins to enter the room).

DEFEND

• Gather items that can be used to throw or swing as weapons. If the intruder breaches the locked/barricaded door, use ‘Throw and Go’ to escape if needed. Throwing objects while running through the doorway to escape.
• Be aggressive and commit to your actions in a life-threatening situation. You have permission to survive!

Follow the instructions of school staff, however, all students and staff may have to make quick and important decisions in a life-threatening situation.

Do not take the time to lock perimeter doors during a Lockdown. Risk is increased to students or staff in exposed areas attempting to lock outside doors.

Law Enforcement Or School Administration Will Announce The Completion Of The Drill!

During a Lockdown, use short SMS Texting to communicate to parents at 5-15 minute intervals to minimize the impact of heavy cell service with dropped calls.

Buddy Bench

Girl Scout Troops #10283 and #10286 came to Chadron Primary this past Saturday to work on a project toward earning their Bronze Awards Chadron Girl Scouts Hannah Jamison and Gillian Conway were joined by Lillie Allen from Crawford.  The Buddy Bench idea along with the Rainbow Bench allow children the opportunity to have someone to play with (Buddy) or a spot to socialize (Rainbow).  The Girl Scouts have created some rules to go with the Buddy Bench.  Thank you Girl Scouts for your community service project and for thinking of Chadron Primary students.

Sometimes kids are out for recess and don’t have anyone to play with, even though they want to play with others.  They might be lonely and not know how to find friends to play with them.  The buddy bench is there to try to overcome loneliness and help kids make new friends.  If a child wants a playmate and doesn’t have anyone available at the moment, they can go sit on the bench.  That is a sign to other kids that they want to play.  Other children can then go invite the child sitting on the bench to come play with them.  This should help new friendships form and help children from feeling left out.  

Rules for the buddy bench:

The bench is not a punishment and children are not in trouble if they are sitting on the buddy bench.

The bench isn’t for hanging out and children should sit only sit here if they can’t find anyone to play with them.  

If you are sitting on the bench, then you must play with the first child that invites you.

If there are two kids on the bench, then they should play together.

Have fun making new friends and playing with new groups of children!

On the LOOKOUT for LEGOS

Chadron Primary School and our Parent Involvement Group is once again on the lookout for Lego Bricks…  The group is planning our 2nd Annual Penny Carnival set for February 16, 2018 and as part of the games and activities we are seeking new or gently used Lego Bricks or other compatible building bricks.  If you would like to purchase and or donate any bricks you can send them with your child or drop them off at the Chadron Primary School Office.  We will be accepting any donations from now until the date of our Penny Carnival.  We thank you in advance for your support and participation in this exciting event and the theme for this year’s Penny Carnival is “We Stick Together Like Legos - Building Families and Friendships”.  The Penny Carnival will run from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and we will have snacks and refreshments.  Please bring your entire family to join in our fun!!  Thank you again for your continued support of Chadron Public Schools.
