Updates to the Primary School Ramp to Help with Traffic!

Chadron State College students came to Chadron Primary School to help with some updates to keep traffic flowing.  The college students were a part of the Mini Big Event which is a volunteer day mirroring the Big Event in the Spring.  The Primary School was lucky to have some gals help with painting designated vehicle spots for our Stop, Drop, and Roll as well as a striped area for pulling in to park.

As you can see from the pictures, we have seven designated spots for vehicles to drop students off.  We really need all families to respect the numbering system we have created to speed up the drop-off routine and help alleviate some of our traffic concerns.  As you drive up the ramp, please pull up to spot #7, followed by spot #6, spot #5, and so on until we have all seven spots filled before stopping to drop off your child.  If there is an open spot ahead of you on the ramp, please pull forward.  Vehicles that have children that need a parent to exit the vehicle and assist them will need to pull into the black and red striped area in order to keep traffic flowing.  In these striped areas, parents are welcome to park and help their child get situated but again, on our numbered spots, please do not exit your vehicle.

Our hope is that everyone will respect the new numbered system to help get students in the building more quickly and get adults off to start their day (keep in mind there are many more vehicles behind you).  With colder weather on the way, we want to make our drop off more efficient.  Please do not stop directly in front of the door when there are open spots ahead of you but pull forward to the next available numbered space.  We also have our handicapped space and red loading zone that we ask you keep open.  Thank you all for your assistance in moving students in quickly and keeping traffic flowing.  Another reminder is that our ramp is a ONE WAY area, if our barrier is up for any reason, please find parking along Ann St., 7th St., 8th. St. or another area that is not a staff parking area and have your child walk to the front door.  Occasionally we have slick and icy conditions on our ramp and for the safety of everyone, we will close access.  Please do not pull up the ramp from North to South but rather find alternate parking.  There is no parking, drop-off, or pick-up between the Primary School and Middle School nor behind either Primary or Middle schools as those are designated for staff and a safe area for students to walk.  We also ask you please respect this ramp area when picking up your child from the Just For Kids after school program.  You are more than welcome to call the Primary School at 432-0710 and have your child ready to be picked up but please park in the black and red striped areas to pick up your child and keep the ramp numbered areas clear.  Thank you all for your understanding and cooperation in our ramp traffic!

October ~ Cardinals of the Month

Once again, Chadron Primary School was able to celebrate students who represent the Cardinal Way.  These students were chosen by their classroom teachers and are setting wonderful examples for other students in our building.  The students were able to celebrate with Principal Mack by having breakfast in the gym and being recognized by their teachers and fellow students.  Congratulations to all of our Cardinals of the Month, we are so proud of you all!

Extended Spring Break for Students ~ No School March 9th

Chadron Public Schools will extend the scheduled spring break by cancelling classes for all K-12 students on Wednesday, March 9th (originally a scheduled 1:30 dismissal day).  Chadron Public Schools will instead host a full day staff inservice training to host Dr. Melissa Sadin to train staff in the area of trauma informed schools.

Dr. Sadin has served as a special education teacher, a gifted education teacher, and a building administrator. Most recently she served as a director of special education. Dr. Sadin has been vice-president of her local School Board and is recognized as a Master School Board Member. She has conducted research on the perceptions of teachers working to create trauma-informed classrooms. Dr. Sadin is a published author and has produced numerous webinars on children with attachment trauma in schools. Currently, Dr. Sadin works as an education consultant and developmental trauma expert providing professional development to school districts, municipal service providers and parents. Nationally, Dr. Sadin is a highly sought after keynote speaker and conference presenter.

Dr. Sadin's most recent book, 'Teachers' Guide To Trauma - 20 Things Kids With Trauma Wished Their Teachers Knew' was co-authored with Nathan Levy. The Teachers Guide to Trauma provides an introduction to the neurobiological and psychological impact of early childhood trauma. This guide is designed to provide an overview of how trauma impacts learning and behavior in school. True stories and practical strategies help teachers and parents understand how best to meet the learning and behavior needs of children with trauma.

Mrs. Landreth's Class Takes a Virtual Field Trip through UNL

Mrs. Landreth's class took part in a Virtual Field Trip with Morrill Hall on the UNL campus in Lincoln on Tuesday.  Before the field trip, we learned about animals (coinciding with our Science unit), their needs, how they protect themselves, predators vs. prey and facts about these animals' habitats. We were sent a resource kit from UNL that included animal hides, sheds, photos and many more hands-on learning tools.  Students then worked in small groups to make an animal habitat for an animal found in our state.  This year, students chose a turkey, a mule deer, a smooth green snake, and a great horned owl.  Each group created a habitat for their animals in a shoebox and learned about what their animal eats, hunts, etc.  For the Virtual Field Trip, we connected with Ms. Annie and practiced being a "Zoologist" (scientist that studies animals).  We took a Scientist pledge to be curious, listen with our ears for clues and observe with our eyes.  Throughout the field trip, we heard various animal sounds and tried to name them based on animals that live in Nebraska.  We also looked at displays in the museum containing some of these animals. At the end, we got to show Ms. Annie our animal habitats and teach her about our animals.  A big thank you to Ms. Annie, Brock for the tech support, and the Rogers Scholarship Donors for helping make this possible.
