Mrs. Landreth's Class Takes a Virtual Field Trip through UNL

 Mrs. Landreth's class took part in a Virtual Field Trip with Morrill Hall on the UNL campus in Lincoln on Tuesday.  Before the field trip, we learned about animals (coinciding with our Science unit), their needs, how they protect themselves, predators vs. prey and facts about these animals' habitats. We were sent a resource kit from UNL that included animal hides, sheds, photos and many more hands-on learning tools.  Students then worked in small groups to make an animal habitat for an animal found in our state.  This year, students chose a turkey, a mule deer, a smooth green snake, and a great horned owl.  Each group created a habitat for their animals in a shoebox and learned about what their animal eats, hunts, etc.  For the Virtual Field Trip, we connected with Ms. Annie and practiced being a "Zoologist" (scientist that studies animals).  We took a Scientist pledge to be curious, listen with our ears for clues and observe with our eyes.  Throughout the field trip, we heard various animal sounds and tried to name them based on animals that live in Nebraska.  We also looked at displays in the museum containing some of these animals. At the end, we got to show Ms. Annie our animal habitats and teach her about our animals.  A big thank you to Ms. Annie, Brock for the tech support, and the Rogers Scholarship Donors for helping make this possible.
