A few reminders:

Today is a 1:30 p.m. dismissal ~ we hope you can join us downtown this evening for Trunk or Treat on Main Street from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Heart Challenge Event

Chadron Public Schools under the guidance of P.E. teacher Linda Rischling coordinated with Chadron State College and Donna Ritzen to host our Heart Challenge event recently.  Students raised money to support the American Heart Association and enjoyed a variety of station activities led by Chadron State College students.  We had many students and families affected by heart disease who served as Heart Ambassadors for the event and we are so excited to know that many of the college students who work the event go on to host Heart Challenges in other schools and towns as teachers.  Thank you to all students, families, and community members who supported this wonderful event!

Essentials Pantry

The pantry consists of essential hygienic and household items that cannot be purchased through SNAP benefits or obtained through other community agencies.  All of our items are free, and there are no guidelines as to who can utilize the pantry.  We operate on a “no questions asked” policy.  Basically, if someone comes in saying they need assistance, we will give them what we have.  They just come in and say they are here for the pantry, and they can fill out the sheet to request items.

The pantry is donation based, so we give what we have available.  There is also no limit to the times an individual can utilize the pantry, but I advise once a month to ensure I can get all the donations processed.  General idea of items consist of oral hygiene products like toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, feminine hygiene products, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, lotion, some infant lotions and shampoo, household cleaners, laundry soap, paper towels, toilet paper, shaving products, and we temporarily have some formula (mainly for high need families).  We cannot accept medications or pharmacy items, food, or clothing.

If someone wants to donate, they can bring them to WCHR at 300 Shelton St.  Currently our higher need items are household cleaners, laundry soap, and shampoo and conditioner.

Playground Updates

Parents, our playground is almost ready for re-opening, please review with your children and be aware for everyone's safety:

* Please be careful with the border getting over and into the playground area and over and out of the playground area, especially when our weather turns icy and slick.
* Absolutely NO TAG on the playground equipment or in the new playground area, again for the safety of the border and not having the students go over the edge while running and not looking forward.
* Please remind students the chopped up fill is NOT to be picked up, thrown, kicked, or put into pockets.  This fill needs to remain on the ground (under the equipment) and within the borders.
* No balls or other playground equipment in the bordered area.

Thank you for your help in monitoring our new playground surface.

Thank you Domino's Pizza!

Chadron Primary School and Mrs. Landreth's kindergarten class would like to thank Domino's Pizza for the pizza party!  Domino's Pizza sponsored our first month of eating out and supporting schools and will continue to do so throughout the school year.  Look for the colorful Domino's flyer to come home prior to the first Monday of the month and then you can order that Monday and drop off the ticket for our classrooms to be entered to win a pizza party at school.  The class with the most tickets will be the winner and in advance we thank families that choose that date to eat out and redeem the tickets.  Thank you again Domino's for your support of our schools, our students really enjoyed the party and a special THANK YOU to the families that ate out to support schools!

Perfect Attendance ~ 1st Quarter

These students earned perfect attendance for our first quarter of school and took time out of their busy days to receive their certificates and a coupon for a free ice-cream cone from EJ's BBQ.  It is not an easy task to have perfect attendance for the entire quarter and we want to thank all of the families that made this possible for our children.  Consistent attendance in school is so very important for future success and we are so excited to honor these students!  Congratulations kiddos, keep up the GREAT work!

RELAX

Our students who attend our Just For Kids after school program are so fortunate to experience a variety of activities; last week, Mr. David had our students practicing yoga.  Students seemed so attentive and the entire gym was completely quiet as they worked on poses and deep breathing.  Thank you Mr. David and the entire Just For Kids staff for helping students with homework and teaching them new and exciting forms of learning!

Fire Safety Presentation

Chadron Primary School would like to give a HUGE THANK YOU to our Chadron Volunteer Fire Department for their visit to our school and showing students all of their equipment and vehicles.  Our students were so excited to hear about everything you do and we appreciate the fire safety you share with our children.  Parents, this is also a GREAT time to check smoke alarms in your homes and plan fire exits.  Thank you again Chadron Volunteer Fire Department!

Primary Parent/Teacher Conferences

Hello Families,
We are looking forward to visiting with you all at our upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences on the 15th and 16th of this month.  The first night of Conferences will be scheduled for those families that would prefer (in individual classrooms); however, with limited spots available, we will honor those that contact the office first.  You can call the office at 432-0710 to schedule for Monday afternoon. Tuesday’s schedule is on a first come, first serve basis and will be held in the gym. Thank you for keeping the conferences to 15 minutes in order to accommodate the many families we serve.  We also request you make arrangements for younger children so we can give our full attention to your student, and this will be a time for playground construction so it will not be available for entertainment. Remember that on both dates we have 1:30 p.m. dismissals and there is NO Just For Kids program on early dismissal days.

Monday, October 15th (Scheduled in classrooms) 2:20-4:30 p.m.
Tuesday, October 16th  (Open - in gym) 3:00-7:00 p.m.

Thank you for your consideration and support of our children!

Chadron Community Hospital Partners with Primary

Chadron Community Hospital has once again looked out for our Chadron Primary students.  We are so fortunate to have our backpack program in which students are able to take home bags of non-perishable food items for weekends.  Chadron Community Hospital recognized the need for fresh fruits and vegetables and provided bags to accompany the backpack bags.  We cannot thank Chadron Community Hospital enough for thinking of our students and taking action to get their needs met!

The Fall Food Service Advisory meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 10th, at 3:30 in the Central Office conference room.

Any students and families are encouraged to come and share their thoughts about food service and options.  This is a wonderful opportunity to have your voice heard about likes/dislikes and other hopes for healthy choices.

September ~ Cardinals of the Month

Chadron Primary was excited to honor and celebrate our September Cardinals of the Month!  These students were chosen by their teachers as children who uphold our three Cardinal Rules: 1)Be Safe, 2)Be Respectful, and 3)Be Responsible.  They are kiddos who have gone above and beyond good citizenship and we were able to celebrate with breakfast in the teachers' lounge.  We are so proud of these students and look forward to the amazing things these children will accomplish.
