Thank you Chadron Public Library for Lunar Disk Exploration

Recently, students had the opportunity to learn about the moon.  Three stations were set up for students to learn about the moon and its surface.  The highlight of the program was the lunar disk on loan from NASA. The six Apollo missions that landed astronauts on the Moon returned a collection of rocks and sediment samples weighing 382 kilograms and consisting of more than 2,000 separate samples.  The lunar disk contained small samples of this lunar material. Descriptions of the samples were discussed. Students were able to use a digital microscope to get a closer look at the samples.

UNL Virtual Field Trip

On Tuesday, Mrs. Landreth’s class participated in a virtual field trip to Morrill Hall in Lincoln, Nebraska. Mrs. Landreth was awarded the Roger’s Scholarship to cover the costs of the program, Animals in the Hall. Prior to the field trip, students worked in teams to create dioramas based on native Nebraskan animals. During the field trip, Ms. Annie guided us around the dioramas at Morrill Hall. We learned about the job of a zoologist, predators, prey and other animals native to our area. As rural residents in the state, students were able to name many of the animals in the hall. This was a fun, interactive way to learn about the animals near us as well as reinforce key concepts in our animals unit for science class. We would like to give a big shout out to our technology department for helping to make this happen.  We would also like to say a big thank you to Jennifer and Annie as well as all the others at UNL who made this possible for us.

Heart Challenge Event

Chadron Public Schools under the guidance of P.E. teacher Linda Rischling coordinated with Chadron State College and Donna Ritzen to host our Heart Challenge event recently.  Students raised money to support the American Heart Association and enjoyed a variety of station activities led by Chadron State College students.  We had many students and families affected by heart disease who served as Heart Ambassadors for the event and we are so excited to know that many of the college students who work the event go on to host Heart Challenges in other schools and towns as teachers.  Thank you to all students, families, and community members who supported this wonderful event!
