Students at Chadron Primary have been discussing our Safety and Security Protocol by reviewing what we would do in the case of a lockdown. Principal Uhing has been reading the book, I'm Not Scared...I'm Prepared by Julia Cook to each class. Classroom teachers have been reviewing procedures for lockdown events or evacuation. Our students have learned we Avoid, Deny, and Defend and we hope our students have developed skills they can use anywhere. Our children are well aware we do NOT promote fighting, but rather defend ourselves and "throw and go". We will be having our first lockdown drill in September and encourage you to visit with your child(ren) about what they are learning at school and ways to stay safe. Thank you for your continued support of our schools!

Cardinals Committed Visit the Nest
We were so thrilled to have some softball players from Chadron High School join us for lunch this week. These ladies are members of our Cardinals Committed group which is a human performance project that promotes nutrition, sleep, chemical health, and character. These students are role models for our young students and our little birds get so excited to have them visit! We wish all of our Cardinals Committed students good luck as they move forward with practices and competition.

Busy Days
Chadron Primary School students have been busy within these first two weeks of school. Students have been reviewing our three Cardinal Rules: 1)Be Safe, 2)Be Respectful, and 3)Be Responsible. We are learning procedures for classrooms as well as safety procedures. Students participated in a bus evacuation drill as well as a fire drill this week and Principal Uhing will be reading a safety book that promotes Avoid, Deny, and Defend as we have lockdown drills scheduled for the upcoming month. Students have been exploring the spaces they may evacuate to in case of emergency evacuations so please visit with your children about the experiences they have had at school. Our hope is that students will take the skills they learn here at Chadron Primary School with them everywhere they go. Students have also taken advantage of the nice weather to explore some Science, and Social Studies outdoors. One class was found learning about plant growth and we are anxious to track the progress of their creations. Thank you for your continued support of Chadron Public Schools.

Parents - Please Read
One of the most important jobs we have as educators is to keep our babies safe. The Nebraska Department of Education has adopted a Safety and Security Protocol. Chadron Public Schools has incorporated a Standard Response Protocol for each of our buildings and we would like you to familiarize yourself with what will be presented to your children. All students K-12 are taught to be proactive in safety and security situations so please visit with your children about what they have learned and how this is a lifelong skill. If you have any questions about what is taught, please feel free to give us a call or stop by to visit.
